Vizbee VIPMS™ – Central and Handheld RFID Industrial Parking Management System
Managing the exact localizations of vehicles in large industrial parking lots, with thousands of parked vehicles, is an ongoing concern for car manufacturers, car dealers, rental companies and other facilities with very large vehicle lots, such as ports. Searching for specific cars in large parking lots can take an average of between 20 to 30 minutes per vehicle. These delays, or the risk of parking management delays, require maintaining more staff and higher operating costs. Car importers and manufacturers must deal with strict shipping schedules. An idle ship in port, while the search continues, results in high port charges and penalties.
Existing localization systems for industrial parking management are not cost-effective, require heavy infrastructure and have not proven accurate at the individual cell level.
Vizbee introduces a new approach with the Vizbee Industrial Parking Management System (VIPMS™), a patent-pending solution that offers 100% cell-accurate localization at an affordable price for fast ROI. The Vizbee VIPMS turns handheld passive RFID readers into intelligent, programmable devices that deliver real-time, “pseudo online” functions and features.
Each vehicle has a barcode or a windshield passive RFID tag that is its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Each parking spot is equipped with inexpensive rugged UHF RFID tags, that are installed into the ground on the side of each parking spot, or on an adjoining wall, which hold the “Parking Place Identification Number” (PPIN).
Valets or “jockeys” are equipped with RFID handheld readers. Upon parking a vehicle they simply scan the VIN, followed by the PPIN. This automatically links the VIN to the PPIN. This data is stored on the handheld reader and then uploaded to the Vizbee Industrial Parking Management System. The exact location of every vehicle is now just a click away.
Synchronization between the handheld reader and the VIPMS can be done via GPRS, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, depending on the handheld reader. In pilot tests carried out in large parking facilities, the number of jockeys needed for standard operations was reduced by half using the Vizbee VIPMS.
Vizbee’s new patent-pending parking management system and approach, combining the powerful intuitive parameter-driven VIPMS with the technical capabilities of advanced handheld readers, opens an entire new dimension in industrial parking management for both online and offline operation.
Intelligent functionality on handheld readers
The Vizbee Industrial Parking Management System installs software on the handheld reader and downloads site specific settings. A unique set of interfaces, specially designed for handheld devices, ensures intuitive, user-friendly operation. At any point in time, all data that is stored in handheld readers can be uploaded and synchronized with the VIPMS via GPRS, WiFi, Bluetooth or USB connection.

Using the Park function, jockeys scan the VIN and PPIN to store the link in the handheld’s memory. When synchronized via GPRS, WiFi or Bluetooth this information is uploaded to the VIPMS. Simultaneously the information for all the vehicles on the lot can up updated on the handheld reader.
Vacating a parking place Using the Vacate function on the handheld reader, jockeys indicate the removal of a vehicle from a parking place simply by scanning the PPIN tag. When access control system RFID readers are installed at the entry and exit points, reading the VIN at the exit by the parking management system automatically indicates that the parking place of the vehicle leaving is now vacant.
Change vehicle location Jockeys simply move vehicles and create new associations between the VIN and the new PPIN. The previous PPIN is automatically cancelled and this parking space is shown as vacant.
Use the Search function on the VIPMS or on the handheld and key in the VIN. The vehicle’s coordinates are immediately displayed.
Location to optimize movement and enable random parking
Deciding where to send jockeys optimizes industrial parking management movement and time. The Optimize Parking function on the VIPMS automatically indicates the closest parking spot available from the car’s present location. These features enable random parking, so that cars no longer have to be parked by manufacturer, type, color, etc. The freedom to utilize the closest available parking space each time improves occupancy rate and significantly shortens parking management workflow processes.
Parking access control
With barriers installed at parking zone entrances and exits, the system can control entry and divert vehicles. With the VIN on a windshield RFID tag, the VIPMS will not allow entry to vehicles assigned to other parking locations. Likewise it prevents theft by not allowing a vehicle to exit the parking lot if no instructions to retrieve the vehicle are logged and if an authorized jockey tag is not simultaneously identified.
The Vizbee Parking Management System generates ongoing statistics, such as average use of parking place, average time for parking or retrieving, per parking lot, per jockey, etc. Significant deviations from standard performance can be automatically noted and reported. These ongoing statistics contribute to improve operational efficiency and reduce industrial parking management costs.
